Do you want to start running and exercising? Or are you trying to rediscover the motivation to incorporate even more exercise into your daily life?
Then you should follow along here! At Team MIIEGO, we have many skilled and experienced ambassadors – including both personal trainers and running coaches who work every day to help people get the most out of their training.
We have asked five of them for their very best tips on getting started with running or training – and ideas for which music tracks you should turn up if you want full-throttle motivation!
JAKOB SCHMIDT - PERSONAL TRAINER AND RUNNING COACH
Meet our first tip-sharing ambassador, Jakob!
Jakob is not only a certified personal trainer but also a running coach and bike instructor. Every day, he works with clients who need to find the drive to train – and train correctly! Therefore, he knows exactly what it takes to start running and exercising effectively.
Jakob's best tip for getting started with running or training is:
Make sure you have a goal to train towards and find a plan to follow. This increases motivation and gives you something more tangible to work towards.
If you want to start running, Jakob also has good advice: Add strength training to your routine. Strength training improves running economy and increases muscle mass, which reduces the risk of injuries when you run, he explains.
Jakob's best motivational song:
With Some Class – Hampenberg

KRISTINE LAURSEN – RUNNING COACH
Our second ambassador, Kristine, is a running coach and enjoys running with entire teams of enthusiastic runners through both forests and cities. And Kristine herself runs kilometer after kilometer as an ultra and trail runner. So there's as much experience in running as there is a smile on her face – and that's a lot!
Kristine's best tip for getting started with running or training is:
Find a sport that makes you happy, makes you smile, and that you find fun – if not every time, then almost every time!
And it can be a good idea to make training a social activity! I personally enjoy running with my friends. We often talk so much that we completely lose track of time and place.
And it just makes it easier to get out there when it's raining, when the couch calls, or when I really just want to skip training. In fact, I've met many of my best friends through training, and I wouldn't want to be without them!
Kristine's best motivational song:
Gotta Get Thru This – Daniel Bedingfield

HELLE VINTHER – PERSONAL TRAINER, HABIT COACH AND YOGA TEACHER
Helle is not only a huge fitness enthusiast but also a certified habit coach, yoga teacher, and personal trainer. Every week, she advises clients and class participants on everything from stretches and deep breaths to pull-ups and heavy lifts.
Helle's best tip for getting started with running or training is:
My best tip for getting started with training is, first and foremost, to have a plan for the training ahead of you. Whether it's a run, a strength session, or something entirely different. For me personally, it's about creating a structure so I know what I'm going to train and when I'm going to train. At the same time, it has to be fun for me and be something that boosts my joy of movement.
Helle knows exactly what it takes to get started with training. But she also has a strong understanding that intentions are not always enough. And therefore, good habits and routine are also needed. She therefore recommends:
- Set the bar low. It's better to do something than to do nothing.
- Experiment and vary your training. Both for injury prevention and for your motivation.
- Remove any obstacles that might prevent you from going. For example, prepare your clothes in advance or have a clear agreement with yourself or a friend to train.
- Preferably have a plan B. Think: "If I can't do XX, I can do XX instead, which will get me towards the same goal."
All of this can help you actually get moving because you're helping yourself get started – and making sure to set the bar at a place where you can reach your goals.
Helle's best motivational song:
I Don't Care – Fall Out Boy

JONAS MANLEY – RUNNING COACH
With sharp knowledge and quick feet, Jonas moves through his days – and he also helps others create running programs and get kilometers in their legs in the best possible way. Therefore, he also has some very sharp advice for you on how to start running well.
Jonas' best tip for getting started with running is:
One of the most important things about running is finding something that motivates you to keep going. Because what really makes a difference is consistency!
Therefore, I also recommend reminding yourself that if you don't train regularly and consistently – you won't reach your goals. That's actually a really good motivation to keep at it!
And of course, music is also a huge motivator. It's proven that music can enable you to give a little extra. And it's much better to listen to great music than car engines and noise.
Jonas' best motivational song:
Best of Me - NEFFEX

KIRSTINE SKOVGGAARD – RUNNING COACH
The last of our sharp MIIEGO coaches is Kirstine. Kirstine works hard on her bike, in her running shoes, and in the swimming pool as she intensely trains to conquer Ironman CPH. And she is a running coach who diligently shares her great running tips on both her blog and on Instagram.
Kirstine's best tip for getting started with running is:
Use running as something that can help you explore new parts of your city or neighborhood.
You can use Garmin Route Planner to find new routes and enjoy the excitement of venturing out on foot. There are plenty of exciting areas to see, and it's magical to experience it with your running shoes on!
Here, you can also use music to make it easier to switch off your brain and just enjoy your surroundings with great songs in your ears!
Kirstine's best motivational song:
Move Your Body – Öwnboss, Sevek.
